The Complete Home Owner’s Guide to Heating and Ventilation

Introduction

Canada is well known for its ice-cold winters, and although we don’t live in Igloos and play with penguins all year long, our winter isn’t survivable without proper heating. At first glance you may think a heater is quite simple, but that’s never the case. Heaters are dangerous if installed incorrectly, as quite often they use natural gas. Whether it’s a simple install, maintenance, or a repair job, make sure you call a professional, licensed HVAC service technician like Mak from Mak Refrigeration. Mak is highly trained, and has years of experience. He knows the ins and outs of heating a home better than anyone else in the industry. You truly can’t go wrong by picking up the phone and calling Mak.

In this all-encompassing Home Owner’s guide, you’ll have all your questions answered. In the event that your question isn’t answered, give Mak a call for a free consultation.

The Products We Service

Forced Air (Furnace) Systems

In Canada, the most common way to heat your home is through the use of a forced air system. This particular system heats air in a furnace and disperses it throughout your home using a complex air duct system. If you think you have a furnace-based system, but don’t recognize the name, you may have also heard the term basic central heating system. This particular system uses natural gas, propane, or electricity for power.

Baseboards

Baseboard heaters are very popular in smaller homes that don’t require a lot of power to heat them. Examples being cottages and some basement apartments. Baseboards are also the type of heater that should be used in the event that you don’t have access to natural gas. The major benefit of this type of heater is that you can control each baseboard heater individually, whereas a furnace-based system is one setting for your entire home.

Radiator Based Systems

Radiator based systems are popular in older homes. Typically, water is collected in a boiler. That boiler boils the water, allowing the water to then be spread throughout your home via a complex pipe system. This system is powered by natural gas, meaning it can be quite difficult to install and repair.

Geothermal Systems

Geothermal systems are very complex heaters that use pockets of warm air from the Earth. Mak Refrigeration does not service all geothermal systems, only a select few. Call Mak today for more information.
